"And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."
Each living organism, from the tiniest single-celled variety to the most complex of the animal kingdom has two directives woven into its DNA - Survive and Procreate. Survival is clearly the lynchpin of any further inclination. This survival instinct can produce some of the most elaborate defenses - a complicated system of smoke and mirrors that can allow one to look at their reflection or their surroundings without feeling like they are dangling by a thread, suspended above an abyss. For some, these defenses become the stories or truths they must believe or tell themselves because the alternative is too devastating, too terrifying, too destabilizing for their fragile systems to internalize. The development of certain protections is essential to survive. Denial of certain truths may allow one to exist.
The bible tells us in the Book of John about freedom as related to truth. But although the truth will set you free, it can really fuck you up. As truth is revealed what unfolds leaves me feeling the most existential aloneness I have even known - the realization that I alone have my story. This singularity seems to only be cured by a greater recognition of that which unifies all creation. The flow of particles that is all created by stardust. An awakening to my connection to all heals my terminal uniqueness. I am freed from my truth through oneness.
